B.Des. (Fashion and Apparel Design)
The B.Des. (Fashion and Apparel Design) at MIT-WPU is an avant-garde programme that marries the artistry of fashion with the latest technological advancements, preparing students to become vanguards in the ever-evolving world of fashion. This curriculum goes beyond traditional fashion design, emphasising the role of design as a powerful instrument for social, cultural, and environmental advocacy. Our philosophy is that fashion is more than aesthetic creation; it's a pivotal force in shaping societal trends and addressing global challenges.
Students delve into the intricacies of fabric science, cutting-edge design techniques, and sustainable fashion practices, gaining a holistic understanding of the fashion industry from concept to consumer. A key focus of the programme is the cultivation of a user-centric approach. Through immersive projects, workshops, and user experience studies, students develop an acute awareness of creating designs that resonate with diverse audiences, ensuring that their creations are not only stylish but also inclusive and considerate of various consumer needs.
Emerging trends like digital fashion, eco-conscious materials, and ethical production processes are integral to our curriculum, reflecting the industry's shift towards more sustainable and technologically driven practices. Students are encouraged to explore contemporary realms like wearable technology, virtual fashion design, and circular fashion, equipping them with the tools to navigate the complexities of modern fashion design and sustainability.
The programme's collaborative and experiential nature is highlighted through hands-on design projects, often in partnership with industry leaders. These projects challenge students to innovate in response to real-world issues, ranging from consumer lifestyle changes to the integration of new technologies in fashion design. Upon completion, students emerge as multifaceted fashion designers who are adept at creating innovative, sustainable, and socially responsible fashion. They are poised for a wide array of career paths, from traditional roles in fashion design and merchandising to pioneering positions in fashion technology and sustainability. As trailblazers in fashion and apparel design, students are equipped to make significant contributions to the industry, positively impacting society and the environment.
