Bio

Dr. Soma Mishra is an Environmentalist and active in research, writing, and teaching for over 12 years. She holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee, an M.Tech. in Environmental Engineering from NIFFT, Ranchi. She also earned her M.Sc.in Environmental Sciences from Sambalpur University and B.Sc. in Environment and Water Management from Ranchi University. She received a DAAD fellowship and worked in the University of applied sciences, Dresden as a Visiting Scientist. She is actively associated with the River Bank Filtration group in India and abroad. She worked on many projects related to Lake/Riverbank filtration which are funded by European Commission.

Earlier, she worked as a Climate Scientist and Associate Director with Sustain Labs Paris. She also worked as an Assistant Professor in prestigious institutions like Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda and Marwadi University. Her research’s overarching objective is to ascertain, broaden and develop various dimensions of emerging contaminants in the water systems and their effective removal. She has experience in the degradation and detoxification of complex industrial and municipal wastewater pollutants by bioaugmentation and phytoremediation approaches for sustainable development. She also specializes in the field of use of wastewater for agricultural purposes and the management of solid waste at the organizational level by sustainable approaches. She also gained experience in understanding indoor air pollution and its remedies and other associated problems relevant to climate change. Apart from academics and research, she is passionate about social services and worked for many rural communities to solve the issues related to polluted drinking water. She is a founder of SustainOEarth, through which she works for small scale industries and societies to resolve issues related to water and waste management. She is also associated with organizations that worked in the field of women’s Entrepreneurship development for rural artisans.
