Team Vegapod Hyperloop Shines at European Hyperloop Week 2025
MIT World Peace University proudly celebrates Team Vegapod Hyperloop's extraordinary achievement at the European Hyperloop Week 2025, which took place in July in Groningen, Netherlands. Competing against 35 elite teams from the world's leading universities, our students secured 8th place globally and emerged as the only Asian team to successfully demonstrate their prototype.
Ms. Sophie Hermans, Deputy Prime Minister of the Netherlands, and Ms. Annelies Pleijte, Mayor of Veendam, personally visited the team and commended their exceptional performance. This marks our 4th consecutive participation, with the team achieving Top 2 placement in the Outreach and Showcasing categories while being one of only 2 Indian teams to qualify for finals.
The team developed an advanced prototype featuring dual single-sided linear induction motors, four EMS electromagnetic cores for levitation, and sustainable innovations including organic paraffin wax cooling, flax fibre aeroshell, and coconut fibre brake pads. Despite logistical challenges, they successfully assembled their complete track and pod system within 3 days, clearing all scrutiny on the first attempt.
Since 2018, Team Vegapod has independently developed comprehensive innovations in Hyperloop technology, representing India's commitment to sustainable, high-speed transportation solutions travelling at 1,000 km/h speeds.
These students were accompanied by our expert faculty, mainly Prof. Dr. Ganesh Kakandikar (Team Mentor & Dean - Innovation, Start up and Collaborations), Prof. Dr. Shivprakash Barve (Program Director, Mechanical Engineering), Hamza Tambuwala (Team Captain), and Srushti Aravandekar (Team Manager) who guided them throughout the event. The team also received support from 45 distinguished companies, including Swiss Airlines, Infineon, Mahle, and Festo.
